It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

This is the unit that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the record chasers, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

It needed as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, regaining their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It is hard for their hitters to possess a record if never given the opportunity.

Ultimately, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to produce her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her nation didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her bow and seven international trophies have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this innings followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it was a disappointing period because it appeared I've had no rhythm completely," stated Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your fighting spirit take over and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has continuously been her great strength - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from there the right-hander was in motion.

"An opportunity to go out there and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at a World Cup - and her hundred in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

Once she was dismissed her side needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I am glad we have the assurance to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, if we do, we believe we can do it."

Those words will be the last Australia's opponents at this World Cup want to hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this success following win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against traditional opponents England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they left last year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she wished she had played despite the injury.

However although she later admitted those physical issues have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this championship is likely to be her concluding event as leader in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as leader.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
