Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
