Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since that period of 2023.

Victory also means he has won 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to question if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to force a final set.

He saved four initial opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner earned the win with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
